The selection of water pump should be analyzed according to specific circumstances, mainly considering the water pump flow and water pump head.
First of all, we should start with the following four principles:
1. The selection of water pump should meet the requirements of flow rate and head;
2. During long-term operation of the water pump unit, the efficiency of the water pump working point is the highest;
3. The selection of water pumps should be based on the selected water pump model and number. The water pump station should be designed with the minimum investment in equipment and civil engineering;
4. The water pump should be selected for easy operation and maintenance, with low management costs.

Flow rate = (total water demand of farmland + water loss in channel) / working time of water pump. It is difficult to generalize the total water demand of farmland. Water flows through the channel, and the water loss of the channel is also related to many factors. The selection of water pump generally loses 5%-25% of the water demand of farmland. (2) The selection of water pump should determine the head:
The actual head can be measured on site, that is, the vertical height from the water surface of the water source to the water surface of the channel or farmland. If it is a river or lake, the water surface of the water source should be based on the low water level during drought resistance. When selecting a water pump, the installation height of the water pump should also be considered when determining the head. The maximum installation height of the water pump = the allowable suction height of the water pump - the suction loss head of the water pump. After determining the flow rate and head, you can compare the performance of the pump from the aspects of supporting power, efficiency, transmission mode and economic conditions to determine the appropriate type and model of the pump.
