Troubleshooting Common Irrigation Pump Problems
The most common problems with irrigation pumps are "no water output" or "insufficient water flow." In such cases, first check the power supply and switch for proper function, then confirm the pump's rotation direction is correct. If these are fine, the problem is most likely due to air intake or blockage. Check all connections in the suction pipe for leaks and ensure the pump is fully filled with water to purge air. Also, clean the inlet filter and foot valve, checking for weeds or silt blockages. If it's a deep well pump, check that the pump body is submerged sufficiently below the water level.
When the pump outputs water but the pressure is unstable, the output is intermittent, or accompanied by abnormal noises, it usually indicates an internal problem. This could be due to an impeller that is worn, loose, or partially blocked, causing uneven water flow; it could also be due to damaged bearings, causing unstable rotation and noise. Additionally, an excessively long or undersized inlet pipe can lead to air intake and similar phenomena. In this case, first stop the pump, inspect and clean the impeller. If the problem persists, it is recommended to contact a professional to inspect the internal components. For pumps using belt drives, it's also necessary to check for belt slippage or improper tension.
In cases of motor overheating, severe vibration, or a sudden increase in energy consumption during pump operation, it's often related to mechanical failure or system mismatch. First, check if the power supply voltage is stable and if the pump mounting base is secure. Second, confirm whether the pump has been operating at a head far exceeding its rated capacity for an extended period, as this can lead to overload. For deep well pumps, check if the delivery pipe is bent or rubbing against the well wall. When handling these issues, safety is paramount. The pump should be stopped immediately, and a professional should conduct a comprehensive inspection and adjustment to avoid further damage or safety hazards caused by unauthorized disassembly.
